9th Annual "BPW in Bloom" Style Show

February 2010

January is nearly over with, already. Pretty soon we’ll be saying “where has the year gone?”. That’s the way it is, the days grow shorter, the years grow shorter, whoa…stop!! Let me start again. We have had our program meeting this month and Michael Trost from the Midland City Council gave us great insight into the way Midland makes decisions on how and where to prioritize the expenditures each year. If you weren’t there you missed out on a great program. Kudos to Madam 1st VP, Stacy!!

Our last meeting for January was a business meeting and we discussed the status of the Style Show planning. Kuohui Suchecki is our chair this year and needs all the help you are willing to give. Kuohui gave us an update—it will be held at the Hilton this year.

Please help me welcome a new member to Uptown Midland BPW – Tracie Cherry with Energen Resources Corp. email—tracie.cherry@energen.com – I hope you  will join us at any and all of our future meetings, business, program and committee meetings. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated in any way you can provide it. Welcome to Uptown Midland BPW. I hope it will be a rewarding experience and let us know what we can do for you.

February is scheduled for the program meeting on the 10th  and 1st VP Stacy has lined up Delma Diaz with St. Joseph Home Health Inc. ”testament to determination and devotion”  to be our speaker.  Our business meeting is on the 24th.  I hope each of you can attend.  Please RSVP to Evie Adams, 2nd Vice President and Membership Chair at 570-5233 (evie.adams@bosworthco.com), or Shirley Harris, Webpage and Telephone/Email Chair at 684-4692 (shirley@tbobamthor.com).  The cost of the luncheon is $18.00 unless otherwise noted for special events.

Please connect with us as we trek through this new adventure for Uptown and continue the spirit of BPW for others in our futures.

Community involvement includes distribution of scholarships to women returning to college later in life; Uptown sponsors a room at Midland's Safe Place; supports and donates to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston. We celebrate National Business Women's Week in October and have our Annual Style Show in April; these are our major fundraisers that provide the money for our community projects.

Established in 1919, the National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., is the oldest organization for workingwomen in the United States. The federation was established as a nonprofit, nonpartisan, and nonsectarian association. Uptown BPW promotes the goals and traditions of this national organization.
